HISTORY

An American Army Officer Lion. Robert Williams came to India as a Scouts Officer in February 1956 and came in contact with the Late Lion. Noshir N Pundole, who was running a Scouts Troop as a Scouter, and also with the then State Commissioner Comdr. Kalki B Godrej. This initial meeting between the three Scout officers resulted in a friendship, and correspondence started between Lion. Robert Williams of Saxton, USA and Lion. Noshir K J Khan.

In 1956, Mr. Noshir N Pundole was deputed to an American Scout Jamboree held at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, as a leader of a group of eight Scouts. Comdr. Kalki B Godrej followed him as the Deputy Commissioner of All India Scouts. Being an old friend of the Late Mr. Noshir K J Khan, Lion. Robert Williams hosted the batch of visiting Scouts. During this time, Mr. Pundole expressed the dream that the Lions Movement should be introduced in India.

In 1956, when the International Association of Lions Club seriously thought to starting Lions International movement in India, Lion.Shafeeque A Mansour who was the International Delegate Overseas of Lions International contacted Mr.N.K.J.Khan, Mr.N.Pundole and Comdr. Kalki B Godrej. Simultaneously, Lion.Mansour later made visit to India to Bombay and Delhi. It is but natural that the very district Lions Club of Saxon, to which Lion.Robert Williams belonged, sponsored these two clubs established first in India. Whilst Lions Club of Bombay was Inaugurated first, Lions Club of Delhi was Chartered first. Both being sponsored by Lions Club of Saxton, RA.

Whilst all the three Lions, the Late Noshir KJ Khan, the Late Kalki B Godrej and Lion. Noshir N Pundole can be said to be founding father of Lionism in India it fell to the fortunate lot of Noshir N Pundole to be the first District Governor of Combined District 304 comprising India, Burma and Ceylon from 1956 to 1959. India should be and is proud of the contribution in Lionism. A country which started as the 68th entrant in lionism stands second numerically supported by significant contribution to humanitarian work second to none in the world.

Indian has so far given several International Directors who have contributed to be part of the Policy Making Body of International Body.

During the year 1959-60, District 304 was bifurcated into 4 districts, called as 304N (North), 304S (South), 304 E (East) and 304 W (West). Then 304S consist of Tamilnadu, Union Territory of Pondicherry, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra pradesh and the country of Sri Lanka.

In the year 1965-66, 304 S was further bifurcated as 304 S1 (Tamilnadu, Union Territory of Pondicherry, Kerala), 304 S2 (Andhra pradesh, Karnataka). 1969-70 witnessed Kerala as a separate Lions District 304S3. In the year 1972-73, 304 S1 was bifurcated as 324 A (Northern Tamilnadu) 324 B (west and southern Tamilnadu). It was the emergence of Multiple District 324 consisting the states of Tamilnadu, Union Territory of Pondicherry, Kerala, Karanataka, Andhra and the UT of Goa, Daman, Diu, Dadra & Nagar Haveli.

It was during Dec 2008, 324 MD was divided into 4 MD such as 324AB, 324C, 324D & 324E at the Special MD Convention at Trivandrum. During the year 2014, the Multiple District MD324 AB again was restructured and henceforth it has been named as MD324. During the year 2025, MD 324 was redistricted into 2 Multiple Districts 3241 and 3242.

Our District 3241 A is Comprising part of Postal divisions of Chennai City bearing Postal Pin Codes 600016, 600019, 600027, 600043 to 600047, 600049, 600051, to 600058, 600059, 600061 to 600067, 600069 to 600077, 600081, 600082, 600085, 600087, 600088, 600091 to 600093, 600095, 600099, 600100, 600106, 600107 in the State of Tamil Nadu and the existing Clubs chartered upto October 31, 2014.
